Hello, my name is....
“Hello, what’s up?” “My name is Blake and may I ask what your name is?”
When we were born each of us were given a name. This name was given so we could have identification. So others could identify us and know who we were because of our name. I have been Blake my entire life and still to this day that is the name people know me by.
So my name identifies me but it DOES NOT define me.
But I can be called anything. You can be called anything. The government could come in and change all of our names and replace them with a numeric identification like in Sci-Fi movies. But even then, when it comes down to it that is not who we are. Truth is, you and I are God’s Chosen. You and I are here because God knew us, saw us and chose us to be here before we were even born. This is something that can never change.
Isaiah 49:1 ….Before I was born the Lord called me; from my mother’s womb he has spoken my name.
So right out of the gate in the first chapter of Daniel we see King Nebuchadnezzar invading Jerusalem and taking Daniel and his friends to Babylon.
Daniel 1:3-4 /Then the king ordered Ashpenaz, chief of his court officials, to bring into the king’s service some of the Israelites from the royal family and the nobility— 4 young men without any physical defect, handsome, showing aptitude for every kind of learning, well informed, quick to understand, and qualified to serve in the king’s palace. He was to teach them the language and literature of the Babylonians
So Daniel and his friends very quickly found themselves in a new kingdom, with a new ruler and they were given NEW names.
Daniel 1:7 / The chief official gave them new names: to Daniel, the name Belteshazzar; to Hananiah, Shadrach; to Mishael, Meshach; and to Azariah, Abednego.
But if you were to continue in the first part of the Book of Daniel you would see that the name change meant nothing to Daniel and his friends. Even though their new names represented names of Babylonian God’s that did not change who they knew they were. God’s Chosen!
Personal Application today: Even when people call you names to belittle or hurt you those names are the opinions of others. It does not matter what other people think about you, what matters most is what does God think about you! And if you don’t know He calls you “His Own”! You are His and His alone. Your Daddy is the KING of KING and LORD of LORDS, the ALPHA and OMEGA, the BEGINNING and END…You have been given the capacity to Walk in Greatness….
No name can take who you truly are away from you. You are HIS!!!!!
