God's Flow Will Make You Glow!
Daniel 1:8 But Daniel resolved not to defile himself with the royal food and wine, and he asked the chief official for permission not to defile himself this way.
So here is the question we need to ask today. How do we live in this world without becoming like this world?
Daniel was a young man that faced this same question. He was prolly between the age of 14-17 when the Babylonians came into Judah and carried him and his friends away as captives. Big Picture: He was uprooted from his home, his family, his church, his life…everything that Daniel knew was now gone. BAM!!! He was now forced to live in a pagan environment where he was constantly being tempted to compromise his convictions. But here is where we can learn from Daniel. He chose not to give in to the demands of the culture and his friends followed him.
Our modern culture is really Babylon on a “Whole Nutha’ Level!” It is so easy for you and I to just “Go with the flow!” But to quote Robby Robot from Lost in Space, “Danger Will Robinson, Danger, Danger!”
Daniel and his friends could have easily chosen to take the path of least resistance and ate the king’s food. “I am here in a foreign country…and dude that pork chop looks amazing…!”
Here is what Daniel knew that we sometimes forget. “Everybody’s doing it!” DOES NOT qualify as an excuse to share with God.
Remember Moses? Look what it says in Hebrews 11:24-26 /By faith Moses, when he had grown up, refused to be known as the son of Pharaoh’s daughter. 25 He chose to be mistreated along with the people of God rather than to enjoy the fleeting pleasures of sin. 26 He regarded disgrace for the sake of Christ as of greater value than the treasures of Egypt, because he was looking ahead to his reward.
Back to Daniel. He had no problem with his new pagan name change because he knew that did not define him. But he immediately was not down with eating the royal food. He knew that God’s flow would make him glow but he refused to conform to the pattern of the culture he got thrown in. That was his decision to make!
Personal Application: How you flow and who you flow with cannot be blamed on anything or anyone. You make the decision and it is your decision whether or not you compromise what you believe.
Daniel and his friends could have very easily had a King’s meal but they knew that who they represented was bigger than going with the flow of the pagan kingdom.
Truth is, you and I are God’s Chosen. You and I are here because God knew us, saw us and chose us to be here before we were even born. This is something that can never change. No time for compromise, we are God’s chosen and because of that we need to be setting the example and not our culture!
